A practical comparison
Cuisinart CBT-500FP Duet versus its glass- and pitcher-blender siblings
Several discontinued Cuisinart countertop models can appear interchangeable in search results because they share a metal base, a glass or plastic pitcher and simple controls. The exact SmartPower Premier Duet CBT-500FP differs most clearly: Cuisinart lists a 50-ounce glass jar and a separate three-cup food-processor attachment in the same package. The other three models compared here are blender-only pitchers. None of the four is marked as current stock by the manufacturer on its reviewed U.S. page, so these are references for existing appliances or carefully checked used offers, not current buying recommendations.
CBT-500FP: one base, two alternate setups
The Duet’s blender configuration uses a nominal 50-ounce glass jar with Low, High, Pulse and Ice Crush buttons. Its five-minute Count-Up timer shows elapsed time; it does not run a named smoothie or soup recipe. For small food-prep tasks, remove the pitcher and assemble the separate three-cup processor bowl with its feed tube, pusher, chopping blade and reversible slicing/shredding disc. The bowl is deliberately much smaller than the jar. The two capacities are not added together, and the machine does not blend and process simultaneously.
That tool-sharing arrangement can replace a tiny processor for someone who already wants a countertop blender. It is not a substitute for a larger eight- or ten-cup food processor when the job is a large batch. The processor also needs a locked work bowl and a correctly assembled collar; the booklet gives it different High/Pulse instructions from blender-jar operation.
CBT-500: similar jar class without the Duet attachment
Cuisinart’s separate SmartPower Premier CBT-500 listing describes a 600-watt motor, a 50-ounce glass jar, Count-Up timer and High/Low/Pulse/Ice Crush controls. That page does not list the three-cup Duet processor attachment, so do not assume a standalone CBT-500 includes the CBT-500FP’s bowl, blades or collar. The CBT-500 exact model still needs a verified matching manual and full model assessment before these listings can be treated as interchangeable; check the actual plate and package pieces on a secondhand unit.
CBT-600GRY: a plastic-jar manual reference
The CBT-600GRY page lists a 48-ounce BPA-free Tritan jar, rotary Off/Low/High/Pulse control and a three-year limited original warranty. It has a different vessel material and smaller nominal jar than the CBT-500FP, and its product-page package does not include a processor bowl. Its manual gives an open-ended High-speed ice instruction rather than a timed ice routine. The CBT-500FP’s Ice Crush control is a separate pulsed setting, but neither description is an independent performance test or a promised finished texture.
CBT-1500P1 and SPB-8: more specific ice routines
The larger CBT-1500P1 has a nominal 60-ounce Tritan jar, an LCD timer and named Smoothie and Ice Crush cycles; its manual recommends no more than 14 standard cubes for its 10-second ice program. The SPB-8 is a 48-ounce Tritan model with touchpad Low/High/Pulse and a dedicated Ice Crush cycle, with its own stated ice-load guidance. These are distinct control and vessel choices, not evidence that a “600” name or any other specification predicts superior results. Neither model comes with the CBT-500FP’s processor bowl.
Care, hot ingredients and older-unit checks
For the CBT-500FP jar, the booklet permits upside-down dishwasher washing of the glass pitcher, upper-rack washing of the lid and measuring cap, and hand-washing the blender blade assembly and gasket. Processor attachments have their own upper-rack directions, but the gearbox collar is not immersible. Hot blending requires removing the measured pour cap to vent steam and cooling boiling liquid for five minutes first; the booklet does not give a numeric hot-fill capacity. Do not treat any pitcher’s nominal ounces as a safe hot-volume promise.
On an older CBT-500FP, verify the jar is not chipped or cracked and make sure the processor bowl, feed tube/pusher, chopping blade, reversible disc, adapter stem and collar are present and undamaged. Confirm the model plate instead of trusting a generic listing title. The manufacturer’s three-year limited warranty is an original published term, not proof of remaining or transferable coverage.
Use the exact reviews: CBT-500FP Duet, CBT-600GRY, CBT-1500P1 and SPB-8. The standalone CBT-500 remains a separate, unresolved model assessment until its exact manual is bridged.
