Choose the jar

Choose container capacity around your real batch

A jar marked 48 or 64 ounces gives you a useful comparison point, but total jar capacity does not always match the volume the maker recommends for a finished blend. Blendtec gives both numbers: WildSide+ is 90 ounces overall with a 36-ounce finished-product mark; FourSide is 75 ounces overall with a 32-ounce mark. That difference is more useful for portion planning than the large overall number alone. Consult the exact recipe and manual for safe use.

Rated capacity and marked fill volume are different comparisons

The Vitamix E310 is supplied with a 48-ounce container. The reviewed new E320 and E520 configurations include low-profile 64-ounce jars; the certified-reconditioned E320 package is also listed with a low-profile 64-ounce jar. The Blendtec Total Classic has packages with WildSide+ or FourSide, and the Classic 575 includes WildSide+. The maker lists 90- and 75-ounce total jar capacities for those jars, but recommends a finished product at or below 36 or 32 ounces, respectively. If you need a 48-ounce batch ready to serve, do not count a 90-ounce WildSide+ rating as confirmation that Blendtec recommends a 48-ounce finished fill.

A nominal-capacity threshold is a shopping filter for the container included with the assessed package, not a safe-fill ceiling. Conversely, a maker's marked finished-product line is a recommendation, not a promise that every recipe succeeds when filled exactly to it. Ingredient expansion, foam, temperature and circulation affect how much headroom a blend needs. Check the exact manual and recipe before scaling.

Hot or expanding mixtures need headroom

Blendtec's Classic manuals warn against blending hot liquids and hot ingredients, while its help page also sets temperature guidance for the jar. Do not pour boiling liquid into any jar, and do not use “Hot Soup” on a button label as a substitute for safety instructions. Vitamix manuals for the reviewed machines give their own hot-liquid and fill-limit directions. Follow the exact model manual and recipe; a nominally larger jar does not remove the need for headroom.

Container profile and counter fit

The Vitamix E320/E520 jar is described as low profile, but exact overall machine dimensions should not be inferred from that phrase. The E320 product page lists an 18-inch height; its manual gives 17 inches with the container mounted and also differs on footprint dimensions. E520's product-page figures and manual measurements likewise do not line up exactly. Measure the shelf opening and counter depth, allow room to lift the container and remove the lid, and ask the maker to confirm if a fraction of an inch determines fit. A machine that fits under a shelf may still need working clearance around the jar.

Match the line to a repeatable task

Write down a typical batch: ingredients, number of servings, leftovers and how often you blend it. Then record both nominal jar size and recommended fill guidance. For a 33-ounce finished-product line requirement, the Blendtec WildSide+ packages meet their maker's 36-ounce mark, while FourSide's 32-ounce line does not; unreported Vitamix mark data should remain unknown rather than count as a match. For a 64-ounce nominal jar minimum, Vitamix E320/E520 and Blendtec jars meet their maker-listed total capacity, but that does not mean they have a recommended 64-ounce finished fill.

Open the exact assessment before purchasing: E310, new E320, E520 package, certified-reconditioned E320, Classic 575, Total Classic WildSide+ and Total Classic FourSide. The finder treats container capacity and a confirmed finished-blend mark as separate facts.
